    If you find a pet, and you can safely handle it, please take the pet to a local veterinarian or the Animal Shelter to have it scanned for a microchip. A microchip is a permanent form of identification that is implanted under the pet's skin. Veterinarians and shelters can scan the pet for a microchip and find out who the owner is.
