Arrest Made in Large-Scale Embezzlement Case



Date/Time of Offense: January 2018 - December 2022  



5 x Obtaining Property by False Pretenses – Three of which are upgraded to a Class C Felony due to the amounts being greater than $100,000.00


5x Counts of Felony Embezzlement – Three of which are upgraded to a Class C Felony due to the amounts being greater than $100,000.00


Location of Incident: Statesville, North Carolina.

Suspect(s): Joseph Gilbert Gallitz Jr., 38 Years Old

      Troutman, North Carolina 28166


Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: In early 2023, it was reported to Iredell County Sheriff’s Office that an employee at a local business was involved in large-scale embezzlement. The case was assigned to Lieutenant D. R. Icard of the Sheriff’s Office Economic Crime Unit. 


During the investigation, Lieutenant Icard, with the assistance of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, obtained records from the business which showed the employee, Joseph Gilbert Gallitz Jr had embezzled and fraudulently obtained over $595,000.00 from the business over a 5-year period beginning in 2018. 


On Monday, August 14, 2023, warrants were obtained on Gallitz and he was arrested at his residence. He was transported to the Iredell County Detention Center and brought before Magistrate Thompson who issued a 275,000.00 dollar secured bond on the charges.
